Having our own off road test track with various gradients and surfaces gives students invaluable off road vehicle driving and testing experience.
Land Rover owners at Harper Adams University College came together last week for a special off road social event.
Staff, students and alumni headed to the campus off road test track to show off their vehicles before driving them over the muddy terrain.
The event was organised by the Communications and Engineering Departments, and the Students’ Union.
Video Journalist and event organiser, Janine Heath, said: “It was fantastic seeing how much fun everyone was having scaling the slopes of the off road track.
“It was also nice to see the wide variety of Land Rovers on show – from a 90 called Nelly to a Defender called Jacko!
“Everyone seemed to really enjoy themselves and it was a great way to celebrate the end of the academic year.”
The track is primarily used to teach engineering courses, including Off Road Vehicle Design, and welcomes a variety of different agricultural and military vehicles.
Engineering Lecturer and event organiser, Dave Clare, said: “The Off Road Vehicle Design students are a really enthusiastic bunch and many have their own project Land Rovers which they are encouraged to bring to Harper, and which they are always proud of.
“Our aim is to channel their enthusiasm into engineering knowledge so that they fully understand why the vehicles are designed like they are.
“Having our own off road test track with various gradients and surfaces gives students invaluable off road vehicle driving and testing experience. In addition to Land Rovers, students also get experience of a range of military and construction machines.”
